A curious
mind, a
candlelit room.

I have always been drawn to the edges of things — the hour before dark, the antique shop on the unfamiliar street, the garden that feels slightly older than it should. Notte Curiosa is what happens when a life spent paying close attention finally finds a place to put it all.

The Story

My name is Paul Myrick. I have spent a long career in technology — starting as a computer programmer, moving through systems analysis, database architecture, and systems integration, and eventually into directing technology at an organisational level. Alongside that, I have been building websites since the late 1990s, long enough to remember when the craft was genuinely strange and new.

None of that is what Notte Curiosa is about. But it is why Notte Curiosa exists the way it does — built from scratch, owned entirely, beholden to no platform. The technical side is just the means. The world itself is something else entirely.

I wanted to share the things I love with whoever else might love them — because my view of the world is probably a bit unusual, and there might be others out there who share it.

That world is: the smell of old books in a well-worn antiquarian shop. A dry martini by candlelight. An autumn garden at the edge of evening. A thrift store in which something beautiful is quietly waiting. The kind of Halloween that is atmospheric and historic rather than bloody and loud. Classic monsters. Sparkling wine. The universe, which is genuinely enormous and strange and worth thinking about.

I am a photographer — I have shown and sold work, and I see the camera as an instrument of the same attention that runs through everything here: slow, deliberate, looking for the thing that reveals itself only when you stop rushing past it. I cook, mostly Italian, because Italian cooking is one of the great acts of civilisation. I collect, because beautiful objects accumulate meaning over time in a way that nothing else does.

Autumn is my favourite time of year — followed closely by winter. I am partial to old European manor houses and the particular quality of light that exists only in the late afternoon of October. I believe that atmosphere is not decoration but intention, and that the way you set a table or light a room or plant a garden says something precise about how seriously you take the business of being alive.

I built Notte Curiosa because I could not find it anywhere else. And because I wanted to find the people who have always felt similarly — who own too many art books, who think October is a state of mind, who find the night genuinely more interesting than the day. If that is you, I am glad you are here. Pull up a chair. The candles are already lit.

An invitation to the curious night

This is not a magazine. It is not a brand in the conventional sense. It is a cabinet of curiosities built by one person with particular tastes and a genuine desire to find the others — to build something worth visiting, something that earns a little loyalty and perhaps, in time, a little community.

If you have read this far, you are probably already one of those people. Welcome.
